WIP Wednesday

How about a little WIP this week?

First up, my sewing room has undergone a bit of a makeover. I had 2 machines and 2 cabinets, and have downsized to one of each. The result is a ton more space to move around and I was able to put my machine close to the windows. You can even see some of the beautiful Fall foliage out my window today!

We attended my nephew's wedding in NYC and I came home with an idea for a quilt for the couple. The pattern is Pow Wow by Cluck, Cluck, Sew and it's already in the quilting stage.

They got married in Brooklyn and I was excited to find some New York City fabric at The City Quilter to include in the quilt.

And I've finally cut into my Cotton + Steel! I'm making a simpler, fun variation of my Peppermint Float quilt from Simply Modern Christmas.

This one I'll blame on Lee {and my trip to Mood}...
Some knit fabrics for the Get Up and Go Skirt. Nervous and excited to start!

And I've been knitting. I picked up some yarn at Purlsoho and using their free pattern for a scarf. I've had to rip it out a couple of times, but a very wise knitter mentioned on Instagram that ripping out is part of knitting - so true.

I'm loving the relaxing feel of knitting and I may already have some new yarn on the way!

So that's what I'm up to on this beautiful Fall day! Linking up with Lee at Freshly Pieced.

Vanilla and Blooms

It's been a busy month here so far. My husband had some minor surgery and we had two trips for some fun family get-togethers. One of them was to New York City. I'm actually from upstate New York and visited the city quite frequently as a kid. But it's been a long time and I took the short time we had to pop into some iconic creative shops - Purlsoho, the City Quilter and Mood. I came home very inspired and ready to sew!

Just before I left, I finished up my Vanilla and Blooms quilt.

I started with some fat quarters of Sweet as Honey by Bonnie Christine for Art Gallery. As usual, I added some stash fabrics for a nice unique mix. The backing uses the hive fabric and the hexagon fabric from the line.

This is quite a large quilt for me, so I sent it off to one of our local longarm quilters, Jane Coons. I hope you can see the lovely design she quilted in each of the blocks...

One of my favorite quilts! {Do I say that about all of them??}

Be back sooner this time!

Great Granny Squared

I finished a quilt this week! One that was supposed to use up all my scraps of Bonnie and Camille fabrics. Well, that didn't happen, but it did turn into a really pretty quilt!

The pattern is in Lori Holt's book, Great Granny Squared.

I think it's always fun to mix different lines from one designer {or two in this case}. The fabrics work well together, but it gives you a different look than one line on it's own.

I really quilted this one. About halfway through I was having second thoughts about what I had gotten myself into. And maybe I was over quilting it... but after some positive encouragement from my Instagram friends, I quilted on. Now I'm really happy with how the quilting enhances the pattern.

The back is one of the large florals from Scrumptious...

In other projects... this quilt has gone on 2 retreats and the top is together. Cheerio by Thimbleblossoms.

Thanks for visiting!

Bursting Star and a Giveaway!

If you've been around for a while, you may remember my Bursting Star/Starburst quilt, published in McCall's Magazine several years ago. It's such a striking quilt and much easier than it looks! And if you missed it the first time, it's been recently republished in the latest issue {Nov/Dec} of McCall's.

I saw it on the newsstand this weekend - so here's your second chance to get the pattern! McCall's was nice enough to send me 2 copies and I'm offering one as a giveaway today {US only}! Just leave a comment on this post. I've seen the quilt made up in so many collections! Do you have a favorite new or old collection that you'd like to make it in?

I love that they are showing a few different color ways in the magazine...

Good luck and I'll pick a winner on Thursday!

Saturday...

It's a sunny, but rather blustery day here today. A good day to get creative.

I have lots of choices! Hope you do too!
